Our team was very excited to be part of UAE Detailed Damage Assessment team under GS Construction with KBR and FAP. All of us at SAMIN believed that this was an excellent opportunity to show how effective and efficient our proprietary Laser Scanning and Analysis technology would be in Damage Assessment. Which, all my excitement was burnt away when I stepped outside the airplane in Du Bai, and even more when I stepped on the pavement barefooted at the camp site.
The exact role SAMIN played in the RRW DDA was to scan the area (450m x 400m) and produce analysis report within 5 weeks. The purpose is to accurately understand how much deformation has occurred from the explosion within the damaged area and determine the integrity of equipments and structures. We used Leica C10 and P30 to scan the area and our own analysis software to accurately produce necessary reports.
The most difficult part about the project was because the Cameras were not allowed within the site, everyone was asking us for the images of scanned data to be used in their own reports.
In the end, we finished scanning and analysis of Plant equipment, pipes, and structure integrity with 3 people Scanning, 1 person on pre-processing, and 1 person analyzing total of 1300 scans during the period.
In sum, everyone was amazed at how fast SAMIN produced analysis reports within the short period of time, we were asked to Scan and analyze 50+ more items . All thanks to our proprietary software, we were able to analyze within few minutes after pre-processing using the point cloud data itself instead of spending time reverse engineering to create the BIM data.
